Lice
As a courtesy, please notify the school nurse if your child has head lice.
If your child is suspected to have head lice or nits you will be contacted to pick up your child from school. Your child's class will be screened for head lice and a note ( without names) will be sent home to all parents. Port Washington School District has a "No Nit Policy"; therefore, your child must be examined by the school nurse before returning to the classroom. Your child will also be re-check in 7-10 days after treatment to assess for re-infestation.
Please consider head lice checks on the weekends and if treatment is needed it can be done immediately so your child will be lice free for school.

- A letter is sent out whenever there is a single new case in a class. However, if additional cases are reported within the same week, no new letter is sent.
- If 10% of a grade level has lice, a letter is sent to the entire grade level.
- If 5% of the school population has lice, a letter is sent to the entire school.
- Communications may be sent before breaks, including information on lice prevention and recommended measures.
